Dropping In After a Long Hiatus

It’s been about a year and a half, but… I’m back!

I took a bit of a hiatus because life got busy, and I got sidetracked with several other projects.

Since I last posted, I’ve panned a few lipsticks (they take a long time to pan when you’re rotating through a collection), and I’ve said a heartfelt goodbye to many that were well-loved, but well past their prime.

To get back in the swing of things, I’ll be going through my archive of lipstick reviews and beauty bits that I had planned to write, but didn’t.

It looks like many of you have been checking out my take on wearing lipstick without any other makeup. Love this! In fact, I’ve been wearing only lipstick for the past two months straight. While I’ve mostly been following my own advice and avoiding glosses, I’ve also been doing the classic lip pencil and gloss or balm combo.

Not because they do anything for my complexion, it’s more for comfort.

You know, like the sweatpants of makeup. (Have I also been living in sweatpants? Who’s to say.)

I couldn’t help myself. I picked up this year’s Sephora birthday gift: the Dream Lip Kit, and I’m glad I did! It includes minis of:

  • Makeup by Mario Ultra Suede Sculpting Lip Pencil in Rich Mauve
  • Makeup by Mario MoistureGlow Plumping Lip Serum in Rosewood Glow

Yum.

Rich Mauve is described as a “spiced mauve”, which to me means there’s a little warmth (like sprinkle of cinnamon) in there that makes it flattering on many skin tones.

Rosewood Glow is described as a “true mauve” – my best friend as a fair neutral olive girl. The mauve on its own is cooler than its spicy companion, but together they make a lovely pair.

Since I’ve not been wearing other makeup, I’ve been creating that uniform wash of colour by applying the lip pencil all over the lips, and topping with Rosewood Glow.

The plumping aspect is subtle, comfortable, and refreshing (think menthol). The product is a bit perfumed, but not jarring. The feel is moisturizing and protective, but not sticky.

What a gem! This combo will be getting a lot of daily use.
